Maybe I've got a case of the Stupids, but I can't seem to find this in my pocket Nimmergut. Dem Tapfern.., yes, but not Für treuen Dienst. Is this the right ribbon, and is it an 1830-1852 issue? How many classes, and what was it for?

It is a Baden Field Service Decoration. It was instituted in 1839. The ribbon is correct. There are no different classes. Some came with service bars with year date of service. Hope this helps

Unless I'm reading it wrong...according to Hessenthal/Schreiber:
Band: 35,, breit, goldgelb mit zwei karminroten, je 3 mm breiten Seitenstreifen und weissen, je 1 mm breiten Kanten in 1 mm Abstand hiervon.
It's ref medals 167-168a.

Eric's medal does have the Lippe War Merit ribbon, but it looks like they used the original bar. Looks like they couldn't find a Baden ribbon.Comment

Toward the bottom of Dave Danner's Baden page there is an example with the correct ribbon: http://home.att.net/~david.danner/militaria/baden.htm Neither example I have has the correct ribbon either. Also worth noting, per Hessenthal/Schreiber, is that these were made in dark oxidized copper-bronze until 1866, when they switched to pure copper. The service bars were introduced 7 Sept. 1866 as well.
