    Ring

    Hi,

Anybody knows where I can find this ring and how much should it cost ?

    Thanks,

    Ran

I guess now ( probably found someone who will sell me one ) I would like
to know if this is an original ring, I mean was it given by the army/government
or was it bought personaly in shops ?

    Thanks,

    Ran

Hi Ran, these type of rings were not official goverment issue or award items. They were bought from shops or soldiers canteens as souvenirs.

      Cheers, Ade.

        Thanks !

Is there a way that I can know that the ring I get is original from
that time and not reproduction ?

Hi Ran, rings are a very difficult subject. Fakes have been made for many years. As silver is cheap, they are often made from the correct metal like many original. (Not all were silver.) There is no easy answer. Photos would be needed.

          Cheers, Ade.

My impression is that this ring is a modern fantasy piece. It shows a '14 EK imposed upon a WW2 CCC.

I saw the ring the first time in this site :

              http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-medals/nazi.htm

This site helped me so much and it's so great ( in my opinion ).
              ( there is a sub-menu for the nazi web-pages ).

So I guess this ring was made in that time, unless the creator of the
site is wrong, but he knows so much so I hope he's right :o)

Here is another ring ( not as beautiful as the first ) that I'd be interested in if
anybody has, please let me know.

                Thanks,

                Ran

That's the link I saw it in :

                    http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-...iron_cross.htm

                    And the site :

                    http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-medals/nazi.htm

Do you know this site ? Looks very professional to me.

Ran, DiggerHistory is a nice site for entertainment purposes but it has a lot of junk and fantasy items (including the first ring you were asking about), so I would not recommend using it as a reference on anything. The second ring is a nice period piece. I have one similar that I actually wear. Rings like these show up on Ebay quite often, I will send you a link if I see any.

                        First Ring

Just type in a search for Iron Cross Ring 1914.

You will find that these are currently being offered by a seller out of (GASP!!) Riga, Latvia....

Indeed. Here is one that some idiots already bid up to $45...

                            Thanks guys.

@ Vadim : is there a way for me to know if a ring I buy is a period ring ?

I guess the safest way is to buy from trusted dealer like Bill Shea and then
I can be sure that it's ok ?

                            Thanks again,

                            Ran

Edit : Vadim, yeah, I see it now and I'm sad, it's such a nice ring, maybe
I'll get one for the fun but not at this price.

With rings its always tricky since many were limited production and, unlike medals, often there is no standard originals to compare them to. In case of the first ring, mixed imagery (WW1/WW2) is a dead giveaway. You can also look at patina, which most newer pieces do not have. Eventually, you will develop a "feel" for them. Until then, ask.

...and you'll also pay through the nose, whereas on Ebay you can often find a bargain. Your choice. If you are new to this, your safest bet would be posting anything you like on Ebay here for comments before you bid.
