Is the ribbon good? I am not so sure...

And I am not a medal bar guy but that catch would have me worried if it was a ribbon bar (Ohio fake).

Good eye! The ribbon is a fake, IMO.

It is suspiscious because having received a combatant EK in WW1, he should have a hindenburg cross from the 30's if he is wearing a repeat spange (not to mention that it looks like a spange intended for a ribbon bar). It is also strange that (as stated by others) there are no other Third Reich awards. I would say that at the very least that spange was added later.

I'm no medalbar expert, but 1914 EK2 ribbons are one of the few types that actually did have authentic examples with whip-stitch sides. I can't say anything about this ribbon or the mount or the catch without holding it, but I think it's hard to judge the ribbon from these photos.
          Best regards,

            Well,

I'll have to admit this is news to me. I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions by calling the ribbon a fake. Now I know different. My, there is so much to learn.

            Robert

Edit: I am very familiar with 1939 EKII ribbons, and whip-stitching on these is taboo. I assumed the 1914 ribbons were the same. My assumption was wrong.

I have seen stitching on a side of an old Wurttemberg ribbon but nothing like on the ribbon in this thread. If you have a EK ribbon with a similar stitch side, please post it here.

I always assumed this stitch on the right made the ribbon a fake, but my assumption has been proven wrong...

The ribbon I have seen with a stitch side still hade loops on both sides so you havent been proven wrong yet, at least not by me. I have never seen a good ribbon with only one looped side and I have handeld quite a few ribbons.

So I am very interested in streptiles claim.

And what do you make of the additional holes/wear to the ribbon to the left of the spange? Not saying it is good or bad yet. Just discussing the item. Better pics would help.

I assume the original clasp has been removed and the smaller added later, there´s a visible hole on the right, positioned where the original prong assumably was inserted. I can´t tell by the image if there is a similar hole present on the left side.

                      cheers

                        One look at this spange.
And fore me its clearly visible something else was pinned to that ribbon before that hideous swastika chicken ...
I don't have to be an expert of spanges to know that something not regular happened here.

                        its a no go spange.
                        bad investment

strait forward ,,, return to Dealer .

So, getting back to the topic ('The Hideous Swastika Chicken Band'... Ha Ha! My, we're creative.) does anyone have a ribbon with loops on both sides but with a side with an additional whip-stitch? I'd be very interested in seeing this. I don't think the ribbon I posted earlier in post #22 with one side looped and one side whip-stitched is any good.
