Looks like it could be a good piece to me although the pics are not great. What makes you say it is a cheap copy?

          Hi Rich,
due the bad quality of the red enamel, there are no details and looks like cheap painted.
Of course I am really sorry if I do not know this mark maker, but the whole construction with the pin reminds me some cheap WW I Imperial copies, that's why...

          Here is mine:

The star that started this thread appears to be a Turkish issue piece not to be confused with a German made wearer's copy.

I had thought that the Turkish made examples were made of cheap metal and were painted. I know nothing about the pin assembly, but couldn't this be a real one?

You are confusing what is most probably an original Turkish made issue award with the German made wearers copies. A terrible blunder and very misleading information.

The one started the thread is an original example of Turkish issued star, cheap but not fake.

Was the issue piece awarded to Turks and Germans? or just to Turkish awardees?

To both I beleive, may be others can confirm that.

Those stars with vertical pins and fine enamels are for private purchase made by German and Austrian jewelers.
There were discussions about the BB&Co marked star made by Germans being official award piece, however no concrete evidence. Other than that the ones made from teapot metal with red paint are the only official awards without doubt.
