It may not be evident, or it may be an error from when the bar was made, but I still think it is more likely that #4 was supposed to be an LD1/LD2 rather than a DA25.

I cannot think of a reasonable scenario for an active officer with 25 years of service to have this combination. If he got his 25 before the war and was already in retirement, he would have a Centenary. Unless, by some slim chance, he happened to have served from late 1871 to no later than March 1897, and missed out on both the KDM70/71 and the Centenary. I suppose that is a slim possibility. Then we also have to assume that though a retired active officer, he was not recalled in World War I, since serving officers, even in the Etappen- and Heimatgebiet, got the EK2 on the black-white ribbon.

Alternatively, he could have entered the army just after 1897 and gotten the DA25 in 1920 with double-counted war years (or in the navy a little later with additional double-counted sea service). But that still would not explain the EK2 on the white/black ribbon.

So while possible, it is a real stretch to imagine a scenario where the DA25 fits with this combination.

By contrast, the combination EK2w-PrVfK-RAO4-LD1/LD2 is one of the more common combinations for Prussian government officials in the rank of Oberrat or Geheimer Rat. Just among mining officials, I know of:

    • Adams, Julius - Oberbergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD2
    • Buntzel, Alfred - Geheimer Bergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD2
    • Kaether, Ferdinand - Oberbergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD2
    • Kloßowski, Josef - Oberbergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD1
    • Mohr, Carl - Geheimer Rechnungsrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD2
    • Neff, Heinrich - Oberbergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD1
    • Osann, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernhard - Geheimer Bergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD2
    • Sarter, Franz - Oberbergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD2
    • Schulz-Briesen, Max - Oberbergrat - EK2w, PrVfK, RAO4, LD1

Geheimer Bergrat Karl Richter also had the EK2w-PrVfK-RAO4-LD2 combination, but added the Princely Schwarzburg Honor Cross 2nd Class and the Schwarzburg-Sondershausen Jubilee Medal.

I have the rolls for the Princely Reuß Honor Cross on the Ribbon for War Merit for Reuß jüngere Linie, but no rolls survive for Reuß ältere Linie. Many are in the Reuß ä.L. Amts- und Verordnungsblatt, but I did not have a chance to copy those down. So I can check if there is an REKj2KB or REKj3KrKB recipient who might be a match, but any REKä will have to wait.

    Regards,
    Dave

the centenial medal was not very popular many did not like it and
called it bronzeklumpen or zitronenorden. so may be thats the reason for it...

dave which is the resource with the written non combatant recipients?

i am working on a list since 2 years. (only 1914)

        Prussia or Reuß?

I put together a list of wartime awards to Beamten of the Prussian mining administration (Bergverwaltung) but have not yet published it. I have also been working on lists for the ministries of public works, education, justice, and finance. Plus whatever else I can find.

As for Reuß, I published a list of awards gazetted in the Reuß j.L. Amts- und Verordnungsblatt several years ago, and now that I have the rolls, I plan on updating it at some point. For Reuß ä.L., I have most awards with swords, but cannot work on other awards until I can get to the Amts- und Verordnungsblatt again.

          prussia.

"whatever i find" - i know how much work it is.

my list has today 600 - 700 names of the 1914 recipients, now i don`t have the time to write a book about the non combatant iron cross, so i build a page
          about it.

i checked some old books + magazines.
but mostly the internet sources. i have 600 - 700 names.
i hope to find 300 more, so i would have 1000.
(but you know only from 1914-18 there were ~ 13000 awards + the most of
them followed after Nov. 1918 - till the mid 1920s. )

          best joe.

Do you have the 1918 Handbuch über den preussischen Hof und Staat and the 1918 Handbuch für das deutsche Reich? They are a rich resource of homefront awards.

1918 handbuch für das deutsche reich ? no i don`t

i should buy one. thanks !

a good resource to find recipients is also the personalstand/ personenverzeichnis from 1914 - 1924
of some german universities, the zentralblätter, the königliche amtsblätter and some more. but it´s very much work to search all the recipients in it. the problem
is, that not all of the resources are online to get - and berlin is far away...

the next problem is to find the correct keywords "am weissen band, am weiß-schwarzen band, am weissen band mit schwarzer einfassung, am band für heimatverdienst and and and.... "

much work to do - but i like it....

Do not forget older German grammar: back then, "am ... Bande" would be correct, not "am ... Band".

sometimes you can find fast 10 and more names - and sometimes hours none of them..

Here a new one for my non combatant collection.

Those non combatant bars with red cross decorations of the 30s/40s years
are not easy to find. Good condition. Thanks Rick.
