Not the best pics as its in transit to me at the moment, however I originally saw this cut out in situ at the elderly collectors home about 10 years ago. It recently came up for auction and I pounced.
Here is the auction spiel :
This is the tail canvas cross from a WW1 German CV Albatros plane. It has been framed many years ago. I am unsure if the canvas has been set onto card or not. The Red backing is in the frame.
The cross was picked up by NZ Field Engineer Lance Fabio Sydney Terreni of Wellington in Sailly Bois , Somme, France in 1918. He has folded it and there are some creases but nothing too worrying and it adds to the history of this rare piece.
Terrini served at Gallipoli where he was wounded. He was returned to NZ but re-embarked for further service with the Engineers. He has written a few notes on the tail canvas.
This is museum quality. You will be unlikely to find another in NZ, especially with NZ provenance like we have with this one. Nearly 100 years old and a very poignant piece of NZ and German history - taken by a NZ Italian.

Will post better pics soon, as I said earlier I original saw it in situ and its a stunner.
