Must have been a brave guy. He won the Iron Cross for the Somme a few months before the war even started.
(I wish I could take credit for this joke, but someone else made it in another thread on the same cross

Sorry, Don, am I missing something? According to my Central European info, World War I started on 28th July 1914, ten days after "issue" of this cross. First german involvement is from 4th August 1914, which is still less then month. "Few months" after, 2 years precisely, was only Battle of Somme.Originally posted by Don D. View Post
