A couple of bars with Hohenzollern device

The first bar shown below came from Detlev Niemann some time ago. Unfortunately, I didn't realise it was one of a split pair when I bought it. The "one that got away" also had a Frontkämpfer ribbon and a blue service award ribbon, if I remember correctly. The ribbons are 16 mm wide.

It could be an army or navy bar, and I am sure Rick L. more or less identified one with a blue backing some time ago.

Minty bars are nice, but these salty ones have really "been there". I wish I only knew where.

This bar is made of 26 mm wide ribbons and nothing glows more than it should.

Does the device look OK? Does the bar look homemade?

Many thanks for your opinions in advance,

    David

      Great Bars !

Hi David I Love your ribbon- bars, I personally has the Hohenzollern device as my
number 1 among the ribbon bars. Looks Good to me.

I have just one simple question , when we are speaking about Hohenzollern Knights, How many where awarded during WW1 ?
I have seen different numbers from 300 to 8300 ???

      All the best from Sweden

        Hi David,

nice bars! 1st one is for sure o.k. Can be still wartime or 20ies. For an ID I think it is too thin. If really a Navy guy I give him a Maybe but Army... hardly a chance.
With the 2nd one I have a problem. The corrosion of the needle does not really fit with the new look of the ribbons and of the yellow thread to attach it on the metal base.

        Christian,
the stated numbers of awards are different but always around 8500 pieces.

        Best regards

        Daniel

          Hi Daniel,

          Many thanks for the comments.

The first bar is still nice, even if the original owner can't be identified. I assume that he must have done something reasonably significant to have been awarded the Hohenzollern knight.

The last bar looks a bit homemade to me, so I am not surprised at your remarks. The discolouration of the pin is not so bad when you hold it in your hands, but since it only cost beer money, I am not too bothered about its integrity.

One day I hope to find some Hohenzollern award paperwork and I am sure I have the signatures of some knights recipients somewhere in my other documents.

          All the best,

          David
