Maker Marked EKII's how many variants are there???

    Hi guys,

I'm interested in buying every Maker Marked variant of EKII WW1, Imperial. I'm planning on buying one per -week/fortnight.

I'm not normally a Maker Mark nut (I think our hobbies obsession with MM has sky-rocketed prices and encouraged elitism). However, for the purposes of this particular display it's a necessary evil. I have several non MM crosses, which would be included.

    How many variants are there???

Thanks for your help in advance

    Cheers,

    Jamie

You've asked a question that is not possible to answer, as we are discovering new marks all the time. It's not like 1939 EKs, where there were strict controls over manufacturers who made crosses for only six years. 1914 EKs were made by untold numbers of jewelers for over 30 years with virtually no oversight. So you likely can't find one of every mark. However, it will be an endlessly fun quest, and this list can get you started.
    Best regards,

Thanks for the info and for the swift reply. I consider you one of the most versed experts on this forum (entire WAF concerning crosses). I've read many of your posts and have learned what I can from your observations.

Is this list purely EKII makers or a list of cross makers EKI & EKII in general?

      Cheers,

      Jamie

        Hi Jamie
The list is of both EK1 and EK2 and contains around 50 known different makers ,some with only EK1 and some with only EK2 examples shown.
A sizable collection if you can find em all ,then there's the core variants An endlessly fun questENJOY YOUR HUNT

            Cheers guys.

Indeed, WW1 EK's are affordable and very collectable. I do enjoy searching for Hate belts. However, I need another sideline and "The Wife" gave me the thumbs up

If all goes well I should have purchase number 1 confirmed soon, an S-W cross, displayed on a maker marked medal bar. A mix of each variant including uses and styles (medal bar, tri-fold ribbons, individual) should display nice.

            Cheers,

            Jamie

No harm in trying but like others have said, it's difficult to know what is out there for a definative list. There are maker's marks and then other variants in terms of construction, core design, material used. What about the LDO marked replacement pieces from WW2? There is another mark with the letters LV and a series of numbers, such as LV 26. I don't believe anyone knows how many of those there are. Still it can be fun. Check the data base for a starting point.
