    Resotration Question

    Hi guys,

I've got a medal bar missing the catch for the pin. Do you think I should restore it and make it original looking once again or leave as is? If the vote goes for restore, can anyone suggest the best way to do this?

    Thanks a lot

    Which medal bar?

If it is a common one of a small soldier not worth a ton of money, why not, give it back its old shiny aura. If it is an expensive one leave everything as it is, otherwise the value goes down.

Show us the bar, there are many different possibilities for a catch, then we'll give some hints of how to do it.

A catch will not add much value to it and you may end up wrecking the bar in the process.

        Personally I would leave it.

How about posting pics of the bar showing the damage as well as what medals are on the bar

            Hi guys,

sorry i took so long to answer this. On reflection I have decided to leave as is. I might end up damaging the medal bar and for such a small piece its not really worth it.

Thanks for all your help though!!

As said before "if in doubt leave it alone" you can't go wrong leaving it in the way you found it

You made a good decision. You won't wear that bar, so the catch isn't necessary and it will only reduce the value and historical integrity. The only "restoration" I find acceptable for bars is to replace the missing or wrongly placed medal. Under condition, that it can be done without tearing off/stitching.
