      The mark

Cant quite make out whether it is 800 or 900.

Also notice the details of the crown in the first photo. Does not look too good.

The cutouts between the eagles legs and tail feathers look as if they have been drilled out. This would have required special equipment. Someone seems to have gone to quite a bit of trouble to do it.

Fascinating that, for all the modern technology at the disposal of contemporary forgers, good old workmanship remains an easy giveaway. Either most don't have the skill, or are not willing to put in the time to come close to what the original makers achieved (thankfully).

            amen to that .

            but its no wonder ,
reading and collecting old jeweller craftsmanship books I learned that the level of the elders .. has just being lost in these modern times .
no modern technology can fill in that empty space

            regards kay

Yes, it's one of those so called "Spanish fakes". As Zepenthusiast and Montgomery Burns point out, the craftsmanship to make a really good quality copy scarcely exists anymore. Technology does not really help because PLM's were handmade and not produced using mass production techniques. This piece might just about pass a naked eye inspection, but as soon as you look up close you can spot the flaws. The eagles were cast in one piece with the cross and not soldered on. Also their details and positioning are subtly wrong. Still, I purchased it inexpensively as a replica, and as such it is better than most.

Great photos with that defocused background. I'll have to try that one day.
                Best regards,

Nontheless, these are the finest reproductions of the 1914 serie, even if more expensive than standart and mid class copys like the Steinhauer und Lück ones, better than paying 10.000+ Dollar.. or what means better, but fair price/gain relation if you are just looking for a high quality place holder

This was a fraction of the cost of an S&L. People pay $1000 or more for those.
I know some recipients like Ernst Junger wore S&L pieces after WWII as replacements, but they are inferior in style and workmanship even to this reolica/copy IMO.
