hello guys. this isn't my collecting interest section however i came across this silver eagle presentation to Hindenburg which might iterest you guys. it stands 9 inches tall, the base is made of wood, the eagle is marked 800 silver with a half moon symbol on the back. the quality in excellent, both legs were broken and repaired at one time. the quality of the engraving is also excellent, however when it is decicated to someone as important as this paranoia sets in and makes me question originality. when i asked for provenance i got no answer however i was shown other items that belonged to the owner; which included high quality german silver and ivory beer steins, this however means nothing. the engraving says "Fur Generalfeldmarshall P. v Hindenburg Von Prinzessin Eitel Friedrich - 1914" i'm curious to hear any comments.

You have every right to be paranoid. Personally, I don't like it. The 'f' on fuer looks very odd and the wording is stilted. I also can't imagine why the wife of Prinz Eitel-Friedrich would present this to Hindenburg.Comment

the piece is old - but the engraving is grammatically wrong.
it makes no sense "zur" gfm - correct would be "für".Comment

Right, normally a presentation piece like this would start with 'Herrn' or 'dem', not 'fuer'. Also, another red flag is the vague dating of the item. I would say the 'Latvian' engravers got a hold of this one.
