    Strange Medal Bar !

This is odd duckling...why one earth a Gold for Iron coin would be on a medal bar is beyond me, but I do not think it is a repo...all seems period made.

The first two medals are common enough...the Somme clasp looks authentic but whoever knows if it was added or not. But the Gold for Iron medallion is odd...maybe just someone really wanted to personalize their bar or that of a loved one is a guess. Has a ribbon mounted pin for Gott Mit Uns 1914 as well...all expertly put together.

If you were faking a bar you would at least put known medals one would think?

It was odd enough I wanted it and after inspecting it I think it checks out.

Has anyone else seen something like this.

    Cheers,

    Glen

I do not think this is a period mounted bar.

It's not the combination, odder things happened, but it's especially the backing. It does not look like old fabric in my eyes.

We discussed that one before, some months or years ago, here or somewhere else.

imo bar + clasp is a good one. typical product of the 20s.

in this time you could nearly wear every "medal".

I just noticed the GOTT MIT UNS tinny is using a war merit cross 1939 ribbon... that's not Kyffhäuser ribbon.

I don't like anything about this bar, the ribbons are too fresh, the combo is ludicrous and the way in which it is sewn looks bad, along with dodgy rear hardware.

Perhaps my eyes are fooling me... It looks like 1939 ek ribbon on left and then a war merit cross ribbon in the middle.... ????

            thank you,
            Scott

              Indeed fooled by yours eyes.

Both ribbons are correct for the awards. The Kyffhäuser medal has a ribbon close to war merit cross 1939, but with narrower white and red stripes. The mini ribbon used on the right is indeed 1939 ribbon - which makes absolutely no sense on a bar that pretends to be "wild 1920s".

Hi Saschaw... I just looked at my Kyffhauser Medal and indeed the ribbon is VERY close to the War Merit Cross... I never noticed that. You also make good point on the mini ribbon!

                Thank you, Scott

Thanks for the comments guys. I paid very little for it at the time...I may sell it just to raise some cash for other stuff. I think all the parts and pieces are original, but the mounting is a ' who knows ' thing.

If I sell it, I would make these comments known so as not to fool anyone.

The ribbons are very mint, but nothing glows under UV light. Not the most absolute test out there, but you see many period Imperial bars with mintish ribbons.

Again, it was so odd looking I just wanted to share it. Again, I have always wondered if you were going to fake something this combo would not be it.

                  Cheers,

                  Glen
