Weird suspension loop, crowned eagles and one-sided? Very bizarre cross.

I remember reading somewhere, that PLM's were awarded historically by Prussia to officers in the Russian army, and the eagles were crowned.

The quality of this medal is very high. The detaling is excellent. The crowned eagles are clearly each a separate device. The fact that it is one-sided could be for use as a wearing copy. Something to consider if Russian officers would be wearing them on a daily basis.

Any other members, have you read such an account of PLM's with crowned eagles being awarded to Czarist officers?

Somebody went to a whole lot of trouble to create this medal. It is the first one I have seen. If it is a reproduction, where are the others? I think it is kind of neat, even if it is a reproduction.

      Just my thoughts.

It appears that each wedge is a seperate piece.

"wearing copy" and "jewelers copy" Have we ever seen any evidence
of any maker offering a cheaper version of any award to be worn
          as "wearer's" copy?

            Perhaps a theatrical prop?

There are such examples. I think though that these pieces are considered to have not been the actually awarded pieces, but rather privately made pieces. An archive photo is shown below.

For some reason, legitimate privately made copies of Imperial German order insignia were rather common among Russian recipients during the early and mid nineteenth century.
