    Prussian Uhlan Regt. 11

Greetings! I'm doing some research and I wanted to know the service record of the (Prussian)11th Uhlanen from 1914-18. Anybody familiar with their record?
    Thanks,
    JJ Valter

Apparently, Ulanen-Regiment „Graf Haeseler“ (2. Brandenburgisches) Nr. 11 was attached to the German 42nd Division before the war, but during the Great War UR11 made up part of the 42nd Cavalry Brigade (along with UR15.) Initially, they guarded the border in Lothringen and were engaged at Amiens and Compiegne. After the Battle of the Marne and the German retreat, UR11 took part in the "Race to the Sea" and was posted on the German right flank in northern France and Belgium until late 1914. In early 1915, UR11 moved into the Vosges Mountains and fought dismounted at Hartmannsweilerkopf in Elsaß. After fighting in Alsace, UR11 was assigned to duties in the rear of the German lines in Belgium (courier and security tasks.) In mid-December 1915, UR11 was transferred to the Eastern Front. There, UR11 fought in the trenches in what is now Estonia and Latvia. When the German units were shuffled around in early 1918, UR11 was moved back to the Western Front and surrendered its horses. In May of 1918, the regiment was reclassified as a Kavallerie-Schützen-Regiment and essentially operated as dismounted cavalry again. UR11 was disbanded in December 1918.

BTW, if you have any interest in UR11 before WWI, there is the full regimental history from when the regiment was first founded in 1860 to 1906.
