        Thank You guys for info I did some research on the internet, and found some info. They say it is a Militaria19th Century, French Military Shako or Haversack Plate, 21th Reg

          Looks something like this guy, though he's lost his crown over the years

          There were a number of similar plates worn by the French Army during that time, the size varied according to the type and size of the shako, 1854, 1858 & 1860. This example is the 1860 Infantry model, officers pattern.

          Because of the slotted brass bar attached to the reverse of the plate I would say this is a shako, rather than a sabertache plate. They're really wonderful old things in my book
