Hmm.. How big is that actually? I saw monster EK a little like that last weekend at a friends house.

Depending on the size, could be a grave marker.

Don't have exact measurements, maybe around 0.5m . Grave marker - Good guess but Nope, much more important than that.

Jeez, that's almost 20 inches in real measure From its monumental size it must be from a..er..monument. Or maybe a church?

Well, Gordon, as you're posting it and it's like a quiz I think it must be KM related... perhaps it was attached to a U-boat?

wasn't there a specific U-boot (U 19?) that had an EK/14 as a device on its conning tower? I remember Bill Shea had an album with a snap of it @5 years ago.

...another one of Göring's one-off decorations?

Considering that Gordon posted this...I would tend to side with Richard that I would anticipate a U-Boat connection here...and McColloh's hypothesis sounds entirely plausible...

Failing that I would make my second guess that this graced a monument or building of some description...

                  Cheers,

                  Adam

Jeff, you are right on the button. The Iron Cross has been known to be awarded to ships. Best known is probably the submarine U-9.
This is the original Iron Cross (more accurately one of a pair) that was attached to the conning tower of U-9 (both in the Kaiserliche Marine and later transferred to U-9 of the Kriegsmarine). On the outbreak of WW2, the Crosses were taken down and put into storage and thus survived.
This one is in Horst Bredow's collection.

Here it is on the "second" U-9

                        Great post, Gordon!!!

I'm going on eBay now to see if there's already a copy aged in Coca Cola for sale yet.

I'm not trying to step on anyones toes and I may have mis-read the post but, the cross posted is a totally different shape to the one on the side of the U-Boat and I'm not sure if it's meant to be the same cross?
Please correct me if I have mis-read anything.

                            Regards,
                            Brett
