Hi Von Peter, Thant one does look like it is the same. The date and leaf on the reverse are right on. Nice Cross!

Does any one have another Merite medal like this for comparision? Some of the other medals that I got were 1957 versions and I know he was captured after the war and did not return to his family. He rekindled his relationship with his daughter later on and that is how she got the stuff but I am wondering if he may have replaced some of his old medals with 1957 versions. I don't know anything about imperial stuff. can you help?

Duane, I have one. You can compare it anytime we can meet.

Well it took just over a year but I finally have Gustav Meissners teddy bear that he had in the cockpit as a mascot! This bear came from Gustav's daughter who I got the medals from. He had this with him in the plane in WW1 and WW2. The bear was his as a child and is almost 100 years old. It is anout 9 inches tall and has movable arms, head, and legs. I also found his WW1 documents on microfilm and I am translating them to see what units he was in.

Does any of this make sense?
