I really don't want to pull Tony's chain, but this is one that I got on a EK/Braunschweig cross pair on a bar that came with the documents I was after.

It was only after reading a recent thread on blued crosses that it occured to me to check some of mine (I really must do a count for Anti and check the manufacturer marks, etc.).

Although the cross is sewn into the bar, my attempts to weigh it suggest that it weighs approx. 11 to 13 grams.

Like many blued items, the cross has suffered from poor storage over the years.

How can I prevent the rust and verdi gris from spreading any further, without ruining the ribbons in the process?

Here's the horribly desecrated one I got on eBay a while back. I did something I wouldn't normally even consider. I applied WD40 to the rusted spots with a Q-Tip. Repeated applications and wipings seem to have helped some.

A big thanks to Eric for posting them for and I'm glad you enjoyed them. Sorry I wasn't able to post some quicker follow up on this thread but my system went fatally belly up and it took me a while to replace it.

I believe these to be Austrian made. The surface of the blued cores has to be seen first hand to really be able to appreciate their beauty. These blued cores were oxidized in a similar technique used for bluing the Imperial German Luger pistols and on ocassion some sword and bayonet hilts and scabbards.
