    Medal Bar Help

Hey guys, was just wondering if there is anyway to ID who this bar belonged too? With all the enamels I thought there may be a possibility, but IDing pieces like this is out of my realm. Thanks in advance, Alex

Should be identifiable, definitely a pre-war bar to an Oberst-level Landwehr officer. That is a truly outstanding Godet bar

No 1870 combat, no Centenary medal, no WW1 combat..... Officer's LS cross..... Perhaps a mid-level functionary to the Royal Court. Or else there are more items on his neck and perhaps a second row of medals....That will make it harder to ID. Nice bar though.

That's a great bar! Good luck finding the owner.

Stunning bar to a Prussian Reserve or Landwehr officer!

He probably can be found. All you need is looking threw the Reserve and Landwehr guys in a Prussian rank list (some hundered pages), maybe in some rank lists e.g. 1890, 1895, 1900 an 1905, for aguy with RAO3, KO3, LD1, HP3a(?), MG3 and SA3a...

He could have held any civilian job. Something court related, a higher civil servant, a major or even a fabrkant.

Can we exclude someone "played" with the bar? Has there been a bow? A RAO3 without bow is highly unusua to a Prussian individual.

I sincerely doubt anybody has messed with this bar. It is virtually straight out of the woodwork. I know the guy well who I bought it from and he got it from the vets widow whose husband brought it home and the only reason she sold it was to help fund a new roof for her house. I saw it the day he got it from the widow.

This is not an item that really fits my collecting realm, but it was too me a one looker and all enamels so that's the reason I picked it up. It wasn't cheap by any means, but based on the prices I have seen for the individual medals then maybe it was. How does one go about pricing a piece like this, total up the individual pieces included or what? One more thing and please excuse my ignorance, but what is a bow??

                  Thanks, guys, Alex

The price of such a group is roughly the price of the awards, plus somewhat more. This "somewhat" might be quite a sum if the group is identified to someone "special".

Regarding the bow, please check medalnet's site: http://www.medalnet.net/Red_Eagle_3.htm. The bow was awarded with the RAO3, when it was awarded to a Prussian and if he held before the 4th class - which was the general rule. Awards to foreigners (non-Prussians) were without bows, but he, apparently, was Prussian.

But bars that are missing the bow, although the wearer had it, are not unknown. They just missed them out while mounting...

Wow, Alex, that's a really great bar!!!

Looks like the enamel is in very nice condition on the orders.

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing images w/us!

Man, this is more entertaining (and exciting) than figuring out who's guilty on Law & Order. Please share some more!!
