"Are the framed documents exposed to much light all of the time, or are they "kept in the darK" to stop them from deteriorating over the course of time?"
--Absolutely! There are no lights near the docs, anything I do by that desk is by the glow of a monitor. I turned up the lights fully for the pictures, but the room or the cases are very rarely lit so well. I like the dark, anyway.
--I knew you'd recognise at least one of those bars, Rick! I've got some antique tools here too, no plugs necessary!
--Marshall, I knew somebody was going to catch Blucher's glass; the girl pissed me off a little, soze I needed a sedative.
--Christian, the single medals in the 1914 case are held up in the same fashion as in the 1813 case, but the ribbons are folded over the bands so you can't see them. The velvet is basically applied to a piece of wood with holes in it. Two holes for every ribbon. I then threaded slightly elastic 'piping' (as gram called it) through the holes (not so tight, though). You can see it clearly on the 1813 case. I can take the velvet boards out at any time, like in case of fire.
--Thank you one and all for the sentiments, I knew you'd all appreciate the effort!

        Bill,

What are the small objects resting on top of the cases that are wall mounted? They sorta look like mini Pickelhaubes or filials?

Man! Nice job!! All you need are a few framed aviation badges, a signed propeller, and a regimental standard......

--They're the old finials from my great grandmother's curtainrods. My family's owned the same house for 134 years so we've got all types of ancient whatnots. When I get back in there, that's gonna be a renovation!
--A Regimental Standard? Got a whole wall open for something like that...

            Uh-huh. Staple gun probably.

Bill, that looks like such a remarkably inviting and comfortable room and a wonderful representation. Please tell me you have a liquor cabinet in there? If so, do you accept Canadian visitors?

May I ask if the M1870 Haube is unit marked?

And I would argue that this IS the place to show your collection, not the "Collections Display" forum where they are all repeatedly "Ooooing & Ahhhing" over a moth-eaten Luftwaffe Flak visor. Here it is appreciated.

--Here's a late addition, a patriotic bandanna that hangs behind the drums on the opposite wall, to the right of the other bandanna. This one's very interesting as it shows the breakdown of the Gewehr 88 rifle up top and other things pertaining to the Prussian army. Too much to mention, maybe I'll just take a better photo...

That is a nice Haube. Typically white painted size and unit in the skull and stamped re-issue on the rear visor. Perfect issued liner, FAT inside visor trim, what a great helmet. Thanks for taking the pix.

--I'm thinking that this one was in the army for a loong time, being that it's got the Riechs-cockarde (sp?). Wasn't that done by mandate in the `90's?
--Are three seperate unit markings common on such an old style helmet?
--This one is nice and sturdy compared to later pieces that I've handled, and I believe it has the longest rear visors of all the issues which makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the (my) eye. The addition of the spine in the year of it's issue (am I right?) was also a nice touch.
--I waited a while for this exact one to show up somewhere, I would have been happy with an M67, but this was perfect. I consulted your site quite a bit from time to time, Tony, but especially right before and after this one caught my attention... I remember being very worried that I would not be happy with one, after seeing your collection I was afraid of being bitten by the same bug, but it all worked out. If I feel that I cannot upgrade something (in my heart or regarding condition) I can stop. Hey, I've only ever had just one `39 EK1.

(Sigh) If you would stop down-loading "purn" or buying on ebay, you could learn about your Haube here:http://www.kaisersbunker.com/pe/pe.htm

But yes, in 1897 a new Reichs-Kokarde was introduced for all ranks to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kaiser Wilhelm 1st. The Reichs-Kokarde was to be worn on the right side of the helmet, and the state Kokarde was moved to the left. All helmets had this added that year.

Are three seperate unit markings common on such an old style helmet?

Very common actually, I have about a dozen 1860 to 1871 Haubes, all have multiple markings. I think this really adds to the helmet. Would you agree? Not to draw from your thread, but here is a typical example:

                              http://www.kaisersbunker.com/dunkelblau/helmets/dbh35.htm

"This one is nice and sturdy compared to later pieces that I've handled, and I believe it has the longest rear visors of all the issues which makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the (my) eye."

Then you have a good eye. Isn't that just great? Thta's why I would trade every M1891 and up Habue I have for 1887 and below if I could.

The addition of the spine in the year of it's issue (am I right?) was also a nice touch.

Dropped in 1867 and re-introduced in 1871. It made the M1867s too weak.

However, I believe it looks rather odd in your display, does not really suit what you collect.......so.........please wrap it up and ship to:
