    EK I with case and carton box opinion please

    the EK I 1914 don't make part of my area interest . I have exchanged
    militaria WWII with this EK I with case and carton box please opinions thanks!

          Raffaello, the cardboard box and the case look good to me BUT I'm not sure about the cross. Lets see what the others have to say about it.

            One Pice with paint on the silver Rim? I don't know if they worked that bad in the good old times.

              Looks like black paint on the inside of the beading?
              The frame looks very thick, like a Deschler.
              An early 'look at the pin' thrid reich produced 1914??? John

                The pin is similar to those used on the 1957 cross made by S-L but the
                hinge plate is different.

                I have absolutely no experience with the 1957 series crosses so I
                can't tell you if it's good or not. I think Trevor or Don might have some
                better insight on this one. Possibly a post ww2 repacement piece.

                Just my opinion here--seeing it's in a supposedly early box and carton,
                I think this one is being presnted as something it's not.

                  Not sure on the cross, but I do not believe that it would have come with that outer carton even if it is real. I believe these cartons were official award items. The cross, if real is not an awarded peice but would be proivate purchase.

                    In my opinion everything is good, but the set has been put together, as Steve said.
                    • The cross is a good one-piece made (probably) by Otto Schickle from the 1930s-ish.
                    • The case is a good private-purchase midwar piece.
                    • The outer carton is from an awarded cross.

                      Trevor, I was waiting for you to check in on this one. My initial thought was Schickle but this piece seems pretty thick. The other thing that put me off was the Brown patina that's not consistent with the front or the catch. Did you notice the blob of solder around the catch? It seems fresh but with the same Brown patina?

                      I'm probably being too paranoid and I'm NOT saying the cross is bad but for me these things would put me off buying it for myself.

                      Just my 2 cents.

                            Yes, the hardware is somewhat similar to the Wiedmann TR EKs. But I believe this one is by Otto Schickle - in my mind there is almost no doubt.
