    Saxon St.Henry ribbon bar

    Hi,

I assume, this bar belongs to Leutnant der Landwehr Walter Kühn
    Infanterieregiment 104
-Goldene Medaille des Mil. St. Heinrichsordens 31.05.1916 as Vizefeldwebel
-Albrechtsorden Ritterkreuz 2. Kl. mit Schwertern 11.09.1916 as Leutnant d.L.
-Ritterkreuz des Mil. St. Heinrichsordens 25.11.1916 as Leutnant d.L.

Does anybody have more information about this guy?

    Best regards

    Daniel

P.S. If Stogieman will see this, relax!!!

I have him as Lt der Reserve. He was born 30.11.1894 and killed in action 18.10.18. His mother was his next of kin in 1938. But--

he had St Henry ORDER-Knight, and Saint Henry MEDALS in Gold AND Silver, which would have given him, I believe, a unique THREE St Henry ribbons!!!

Rick can check and see if he got the CVO-R2X.

So this is probably "only" be an untraceable to a Knight/Silver Medal winner. (Does that make Stogie feel better? )

It is too bad the Saxons--especially with all those silly EK2 minis they loved for ribbon bars, did not come up with ANY way to tell the three ribboned grades of Saint Henry apart!!!

      Hi Rick,

The thing is that this ribbon bar was together with a miniature bar with St. Henry knight, Golden medal, Albert and EK.
The Autengruber Books do not mention him with a silver medal or with the CVO.
I discovered only 3 men with this St.Henry- Combination and Lt. Kühn was the biggest possibility. The other had some more decorations.

Was it possible to wear both medals together? I think, the silver one had to be returned, if the owner got the golden one?

      Best regards

        Daniel,

here is Leutnant der Reserve Walter Kühn's portrait in the "Ehrenbuch der Inhaber der Sächsischen Goldenen Militär-St.Heinrichs-Medaille"

In addition to the above awards it states he also had the Silver Military Saint Henry Medal, The Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Classes and the Lippe War Merit Cross plus a certificate of appreciation from the King of Saxony .

He was awarded the Golden Military Saint Henry Medal on 31st of May 1916 as a Vizefeldwebel der reserve for actions during a small scale assault against the positions of the British 27th Brigade at Le Gheer north of Lille on the 13th of May 1916. He was wounded 8 times during the war and was captured wounded on the 15th of October 1918 as the company commander of 5./104. He died in captivity three days later.

Glenn-- are the awards chopped off in the book? Talk about almost being able to see what he was wearing!...

BTW he is naughtily wearing his Albert Order improperly ahead of both Medals-- St Henry Medals were supposed to go before any grade or type of Civil Merit or Albert Order on medal bars.

Daniel-- Stogie-Rick will be able to tell you if Gold medals replaced Silvers but I don't believe so. He is clearly wearing all three on his medal bar in the photo Glenn shows us.

My only source for the Gold Medals is an unpublished, private Gold Saint Henry Medal Holders Association address list for 1938. I don't find ANYONE else who had a Gold Medal and a Knight of the Order.

            Hi Glenn,

thank You very much. Same like Rick I would like to see the picture with his Medal bar if it is not chopped in the book.

            Best regards

              Hi Rick and Daniel,

I'm afraid they are indeed chopped off in the book. One can just make out the top of an EK2 on the original. The publishers were obviously not thinking of us in 1936! The original photo is also not of a very high quality and is much smaller than the one I scanned.

              Regards
              Glenn

                Hi Glenn,

Thank You very much. So are we only 3 on this thread???? Where is Stogieman when we need him???
SO, it is NOT Kühns barmoremad moremad and I have to search again.

                Best regards

                Daniel

P.S. but the owner of my next ribbon bar thread is SURE!!!

Well, at least from the ribbons we can tell he was indeed wearing: St Henry Order-Knight, Albert Order, St Henry Medal-Gold, Saint Henry Medal-Silver, Iron Cross 2nd, and the Lippe-Detmold cross! He must have had the photo taken on one of his frequent recuperation leaves.

His short military career was certainly extraordinary.

PS I believe Mrs. Stogieman has told him that he has "a life." Ha!

                    Hi Rick,

You are right. Lt. Kühn had really a short but impressive career.
But I have to complain...the medal bar is in wrong order....St.Henry medals should be worn in front of a Albert.

Do You really think, Stogie-Rick has a real live like normal people? I think he is browsing in the world to get more pretty St.Henrys.

                    Best regards

                    Daniel

                        Hi Rick,

Oh Gott You might be right, it is now even impossible to buy a simple Albert in Germany, Stogieman is Watching You! I´m happy to be "only" a ribbon bar freak, so that I only want to know everything instead of knowing and having all the nice Henrys.

                        Beswt greetings

                        Daniel

                          Hi Daniel,

two Golden Miltary Saint Henry Medal winners could be in the frame:

                          Leutnant d.L. Arthur Lewitzky, IR.133

Gold and Silver St. Henry Medals
                          Alberts Cross with Swords
                          EK 1 & EK2

Also awarded a later Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer

                          and

                          Leutnant Walter Dittrich, Jagdstaffel 1

Gold and Silver St. Henry Medals
                          Knight's Cross 2nd Class Albrechtsorden
                          EK 1 & EK2

                            Hi Glenn,

                            thank You for Your information.
They also got the St.Henry knight?

                            I like the saxon awards system very much. They had pretty nice awards and a very wide collection of orders and decorations;

St.Henry, Merit order, Albert order for the officers,
St.Henry, Merit cross, Albert cross, General honor award and Friedrich- August medal for NCO´s and enlisted men.

Comparing to this the Prusians were very simple and "boring"

                            Best regards

                              Hi Daniel,

There were not Saint Henry Knights. I'm assuming that your two Saint Henry ribbons could be Gold and Silver Medals respectively and not those of a Knight

                              Regards
