      Hi Jani,

the gold Ostvolker is a 1957 piece. Nice piece for his asking price, it ended at only 15 Euros.

This guy has some other interesting things too. Thanks for directing me to his auctions, I got this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EBWA%3AIT&rd=1 Not too bad for $85...

        The pilot badge....

...in your first post is a fake. The hinge is incorrect. It's a very well made cast copy, with a correct maker mark, but no silver content marks. Casting evidence becomes quite clear when in hand and the size is slightly smaller in all dimensions.
        DO NOT BUY!
I have 2 if any one feels they must have one, but they are for sure fakes! Sadly, the best one's to come along yet and made for the internet. they "show" beautifully in the auction photos and it's only when you have it in hand that you realize you've been SCREWED!

On the other hand, the Prussian pilot badge looks totally good. So how does he have a starting price of only 1 Euro? That always makes me suspicious, but sometimes people buy up a lot of stuff in estates and just sell it for whatever they get. It's possible, but....

Tim, are we looking at the same link?? The starting price for the pilots badge is 50 Euro, and I think Rick just said above that its a fake.

As a side note, it is very common for Ebay sellers who deal in estates to list rare items at $1 with no reserve, especially if they have no idea what the items are. Sometimes the price reaches (and goes over) market value, sometimes it does not but they still make money as they buy those items very cheap. So just the fact that a rare badge is listed at $1 does not necessarily mean anything.

                Bear with me and.....

..... I'll post some fotos of this new type of fake Pilot Badge...
A project I have been working on... but my back surgery on 3.10. is screwing it up. i can't get much done.
DO NOT BID on a pilot badge like this. they are FAKE!
Biggest clue is the pin/hinge they are nothing like originals!

                  Rick,

I thought you were only talking about the EK. Although the photos are not very good, the pilot badge looked OK at first glance. Now that I look more closely, however, I have several problems with it. For one thing, I'm not sure it's even a hollow piece, as I can't see a vent hole anywhere. Also, you're right - the pin looks odd. If you've got good pics of a similar piece, I would like to see them. The pictures on Ebay aren't much use.
