I'm new to the forum, although I have dealt with some of you in the past, and I certainly remember Tony from my days as a fledgling collector out on the West Coast of Canada (hi Tony!). I'm posting this thread in this forum as I thought it might garner the most interest here. After many years of collecting Imperial German headgear my focus has shifted somewhat to the Pickelhauben worn outside of Germany, most of which were produced by German firms under export contracts. I am specifically interested in officers' helmets of the typical German pattern worn between the Franco-Prussian War and the Second World War, although some nations continue to utilize the Pickelhaube to this day. Many of you may be familiar with the spiked helmets worn by Sweden, Mexico and Chile as these are occassionally seen on the market, but their use was in fact quite a bit wider. I'm hoping some of you will be able to provide me with information on any foreign spiked helmets, including scans of helmet manufacturers' catalogues, pictures of helmets in wear etc. I've attached a pic of what is probably my most unusual piece- A German-made Pickelhaube ordered by a NY State Militia unit in 1883. If there is any interest in this topic here I'd be happy to post more pics, including some of my German helmets...
