    Original medical twine for wounds from WWI!

    I just got this nice and rare medics "wound twine" used to sew serious wounds. It is stamped "10. April 19??" I think it is 1911 or 1914.

    Another label with the unit it was used for. "Wehrkreis-Sanitätspark VII" and "P.I.R." München. Any idea what "P.I.R." was?

      It is stored in three sealed glass tubes.

        One of these tubes. It is closed with a small aluminium cap.

          Very Nice Jens!

          Is the red portion at the end of each tube wax sealing?

          it was probably dispatched from the place of manufacture in a sterile condition....break the tube and it is ready for use!

            Yes, it is some kind of wax but very strong. More like seal-wax used for the seals of old documents.

              I definitely think it's from WW2. Wehrkreis is surely a word from the 2nd WW German Army and the normal typing (non-fraktur) was definitely something from the 1940's.

                I am 100% sure it is WWI or before because of the date 1911 or 1914. The third number is definately a "1".

                  Jens,

                  I'm terribly sorry but Wehrkreis VII (München) is definitely from after 1935...
                  Try do a search on google...

                    There is a Wehrkreis VII in 1922 so maybe before?

                    --> http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERleeb.htm

                    After the war Leeb remained in the German Army and in 1919 was appointed chief of department in the Reich Defence Ministry. In 1920 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and the following year became chief of staff of Wehrkreis II. In February 1922 he returned to Munich as chief of staff of Wehrkreis VII and in 1923 he was involved in putting down the Beer Hall Putsch.

                      It is possible that something like this was made before WWI, but was still in the stock system long after the fact, hence a later unit label. I'll bet it is still sterile given the way it is packaged

                        Jens,

                        I'm not familiar with the German Army after 1918 but the term Wehrkreis was not used in WW1. The Bavarians had their own numbering, apart from the Prussians and only had three Korpsbezirke (terms used were Armeekorps, Reservekorps, Generalkommando etc).
