I've bought from Barry Turk before (a beautiful 1813 EK 2 comes to mind), and never had an issue. If you aren't satisfied with an item, he'll refund your money. I also enjoyed the adrenline rush on Friday mornings looking at Detlev's stuff (and bought a beautiful attributed KC from him). Both guys are OK in my books. Sadly, no more Detlev. To each his own.

By the by....the 1870 EK 1 of this thread is item number GST784 for $3600 US.

        Cheers,

The price of quality original stuff keeps going up. The price of zinkpest corroded crap dies in hard times. When I look to buy things I go for quality because it will still look good when I go to unload it years from now. In the mean time the value will have risen. Just watch the estand and see what goes as fast as it is listed vs what languishes thru mulptiple reductions.

I have had positive experiences with Barry at eMedals. Yes, his prices are high. But he's always willing to arrange a layaway and no one -- no one -- else has his stock.

I think you are wrong about both points. Barry's items do survive close inspection (as would this LL EK1, I think), and if they don't, he takes them back, no questions. To be honest I think it is Straube's piece that is questionable in some ways. The pin looks filed and the catch is either replaced or at least non-standard.

to me it looks like a 1939 LDO frame ?
That is an absolute, 100% textbook Juncker/AWS "Wideframe" EK1 from (best guess) around 1900 (HERE). The side-hooks and catch/hinge plates are all textbook, as is the core and the frame. This frame was also used on early 1939 EKs -- perhaps the longest-running frame in existence (c. 1900 - 1941). The lowermost photo is of a different cross, an obvious mistake in the listing. HERE is another of the same type (and I have photos of a half-dozen more).

I still have the original listing for that piece saved (when it was $4,500), which I can post sometime later here.

                Hi Trevor,

I'm debating on this piece.........You said that it was once $4500, and with the lousy economy, Barry wants to move it. There's nothing wrong with it, other than the minor detail of the pin, and the (recipient?) person who bent the arms to suit the style of the day. I could even ignore the much-later ink markings on it. Bottom line, it's a nice piece, and as I said, I know that Barry is reputable.

                Hmmmmm.......a layaway...................

                Cheers,

There is a lot in its favor. Yes, it was once $4500. I'm not 100% convinced there is anything wrong with the pin, actually. We haven't seen enough LLs to know what their "standard" was. To me, the pin is a plus -- the fine detail to the point and the interesting look. The negatives are the writing and the cracks, and the uncertain period of manufacture. I think it comes down to whether you want a no-questions-asked award piece, or not.
                  Best regards,

good service ? ,,well with those price's he better has a good service

good items ? ,,, he'd take it back ,,,is there some other way beside that on the internet ? I think no .

one thing is right ,,,,you wont find that much 1870 and 1813 items on the E stand in one time

you have to wait until here and there some rare item emerges....
so in fact you need patience to find them ...

but there is Moore money then patience fore some here around it seems .

but I do not want to discuss it no Moore go ahead

                    its you're money .

aim just sorry the wrong message has being send here .....

no matter what it cost ,,,buy buy buy

WAF as platform abused to promote expensive dealers .
