Beamter Tunic: Military or Civil Service?

My friend Bernd has just gotten this and wonders what branch and potential rank it may be, since the boards are missing. The collar is black, and the piping is carmine.

From the abyssmally little that I know, I think it's military rather than civil, but see next scan for a button detail

The "Garde" Litzen suggest some favored branch...

The buttons are crowned Prussian shield, rather like Military Beamten shoulder board devices... but I thought ALL officers' buttons were smooth?

      Not Military

      Rick,

I don't think this a Military Official's or a civil official of the Military Administration's Uniform. The nearest it comes is to that of a Stabsapotheker but if that was the case it should also have a carmine collar and smooth buttons. In any case it lacks any matching Litzen on the cuffs.

Military Officials which included the Pharmacist's branch had smooth whereas civil officials of the military administration had the official's shield on the buttons. Probably some other form of Prussian State official.

      Regards
      Glenn

Military Beamte had light blue, dark blue, black, or crimson cuffs. I cannot find any miltary Beamte with orange cuffs.
