Either private purchass or post war IMO. But I don't know much about them.

Nick, that piece is extremely messed with, but I would have to say it is period. With some restoration, I think it would be very displayable!

I was thinking about getting it but needs a lot of work...Sold for around 225Euro if I remember correctly... Speaking of dough my brother's will hit this week! Hang in there!
Thanks for your input Karl! Your dad (your family) owns amazing militaria!

I've got to agree with Dave too. The tunic looks nice with the exception of that piping. There may be an explanation, but I can't think of it. The zink front buttons point to a late war production. Are there any markings? No question, it is a period piece.

All of the other items look good too. My only request would be to see the reverse of the trousers and any markings therein.

            Thanks,
            Chip

I think that it would be pretty easy to determine if the red piping material and application was of the period or not. It is not regulation for this tunic in WWI or after so I would think it is wartime application to dress it up or collector/costume house added in the 1950s - 70s...hence should be easy to determine.

I personally have no problem with a modified or enhanced collar on an issue/contract type tunic if I beleive that it was done during wartime...and not a 1919 or later modification. Many were modified to some degree during the war as the one that came it looked a bit lame in the eyes of many soldiers and I tend to agree.

The conversation is about the tunic, but the boots (if original WWI in the apparent conditon) are about 100X rarer and the trousers (if issue/contract pre 1919) are maybe 25-30X rarer!

Nick, for the money the tunic that you posted might be worth restoring.

Its sold now...too late...Somebody else gets to fix it up. I think it might have been post ww1 re-issued to Landes-polizei or some para-military unit (Stahlhelm?) because of the pocket modifications...

I really had no clue! I know that the boots definitely field worn, but still sturdy and quite clean! Missing a few hob-nails and maybe a field repair as far as I recall.
And the pants do have markings in them. I don't recall what they all were, but I do seem to remember a Bekleidungs Amt stamp in them. I can have my mom or dad take photos if you are interested in seeing them .
Thanks for all the input guys! I have more photos of the tunic I took while home on leave. They will go up shortly.
                  Kind regards,

Any opinions on the collar? The tunic as a whole?

                          Karl,

When I saw your tunic the boards looked really familiar...I have a neighbor's set (numerically speaking ).

Looks like a nice group for display on a mannequin, do you display it that way?

Any chance you can post a picture or two of the helmet and field cap?
