Unless I'm mistaken, the ribbon is for a KVK2?

The Hungarian Commemorative is mounted on an Austrian ribbon that is for war merit medals, beside the fact the ribbon is pinned on backwards and the medal faces forward. Strange. Ammersee

The ribbon in the buttonhole looks like a the edges are more gray -> red, so its a KVK ribbon..

If the photo is real, my guess is that he is wearing all the family awards, including the highly unusual ww1 bar of its father...

        puzzling,

        Best regards,
        Michel

...OK, let's say the photo is 'real'. WHEN was the photo taken?

I could dress my son up and make the photo black and white and appear old?

I'd say he's wearing EK2, Hassian bravery medal, Baden Silver merit medal (not bravery medal!) and so on.

Not common combination but I think a still possible one.

I think so too-especially as I have come across a bewildering array of multi-state awards in the Rick/Krause etc. sources.. Bandmasters, Apothecaries and other senior supprt types seem to have received multiple state awards.
                This guy?
The Hansa and the Bavarian medals will be the key. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be something like Hindenburgs' driver or one of the chaps holding the imperial standard behind the Kaiser at reviews-or some Feldwebel-Lt. somewhere in the West etc..

Honestly this is what really bothers me.

yet it happened! There are other photos out there showing it, I think it was just to stabilize the cross, so it would be less likely to catch on anything.
