Thanks guys. It's a great set and will look really good on display. The EK does fit in there perfectly. The round indentation looks like it was part of the case originally and not put there my another medal. If it was another medal, any idea what it might be?

It really is a nice set Steve and will certainly look great displayed with the rest of your collection. As for what other award your case might have once housed, it could be any number of imperial awards. Perhaps the Roter Adler Order. Here's what it looks like:

Sometimes the cases/packaging is more interesting than the contents. I think this is one of those cases.
        Nice score Steve.

I would say this case is fro the EK2 and not a Red Eagle Order. The REO came with its own case. I had a similiar case that came with a 1870 EK2. The pics are below.

Also isn't the REO smaller than an EKII?

For me that case has always housed an EK, indentation or not!

            Btw, lovely cased 1870 Paul

I've seen this before on cases for the EK2. I think it's where either the glue has given way due to age or the fabric wasn't given time to adhere properly when pressed/stamped into place...

This is a fake, I believe:

Trevor's vwery right, the RAO4 shown here is a cheap fake of 1st modell 4th class. They are on eBay every week.

The case looks great and I think it's a very early private purchase case, way nicer than that post-WW1 stuff in my opinion.

Awesome feedback everyone. As was mentioned, this case is of a good quality and has a nice heavy feel to it. As Don said, the case is nicer than the contents, which is saying something as the JWS is one of the nicest standard EK2s out there. The detail of the core is as as good as it gets and even the mark is nice and crisp and easy to read. Maybe the case predates 1914?
