          Turkish!

It's a Turkish medal! My evil twin owns 2 full-sized bars with this ribbon and can give us more details!

Werner is the only one of us who actually HAS the 1889 State Visit medal. I sure NEED one, since I have a nice clipfront medal bar that's had the awards removed when updated and could USE one! Here's the Turkish 1889 thread with pix:

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=Turkish+1889

Unfortunately, the Turkish medal is NOT shown in Prussian or Naval Lists, and there are only a handful of recipients in the 1909 vanity press "Orders Almanac."

David's naval officer recipient thus evades identification on THAT score. It is an extremely interesting bar (Article Part Deux!!!! ) prbecause it CORRECTLY omits the obvious EK2 worn from a buttonhole. It is quite unusual to find a ribbon bar from WW1 like this, with OTHER wartime awards, yet without the buttonhole EK2 ribbon worn "alone" when the ribbon bar was left off.

Alas, I can NOT find this officer in the February 1918 rangliste based on his GERMAN awards. Either the Oldenburg or Mecklenburg awards did not yet show then, or he was a recalled retired officer: while those retreads RECORDS show in the Honor Rank List, their awards do NOT. With a Red Eagle as peacetime order, this officer was or had been either zur See or Medical. The technical corps (engineers etc etc) started with Crown Orders.

The Baden SET (and don't get me stated on how SETS are to still find together!) is quite remarkable because this native Badener (long service, MMM in pride of place after EK2) received TWO wartime awards from Württemberg! There was a Württemberg infatry regiment with the Grand Duke of Baden as honorary colonel, but no such reciprocal arrangement in Baden's forces! The Wtbg Merit Cross with Swords (quite scarce in its own right-- 2,284 awarded) in third place indicates this fellow was at least of Vizefeldwebel rank and very likely a Feldwebelleutnant-- senior NCO/Warranr Officer ranks for which Baden had no appropriate wartime awards.

If the Württemberg MCwXs rolls ever come out (hope springs eternal!) this fellow should leap out of the pages for an identification-- something that can almost never normally be said of any NCOs.
