    a very old flag

this jagdlappen, or hunting flag, is from 1700 and bears a moor warrior on one side and the lion of hanau on the other. the initials are for johann reinhardt, conde du hanau lichtenberg.
it was given to a maj. coleman during the occupation of germany for his work in arranging hunting rights for u s personnel. interestingly enough, coleman was a survivor of the bataan death march. among his many curious stories was this; when i asked him what did in so many u s soldiers on the march, he said it was the american disease. what is that, i asked, and he said, feeling sorry for themselves.
he also had specifics on the extreme discipline of the japanese army, and ac curious story of his canteen of water, which he kept unopened after he was freed, and how it was of interest years later to scientists. where else can you find water decades old?

            old flag,

The reply just stated that the cloths (not really flags, per se) were indeed authentic and that they were used to deter the game from leaving an area (by spooking them, I guess). He mentions that today they are considered art objects and command considerable sums in the art trade.

Thanks for the additional info. As they are "not really flags, per se"
I'll hold off on raising the $2 already showing on the table with same.
