Opinion on my new 1914 Iron Cross wanted

Hello all My first post since discovering your site.
Have been looking at the pinned thread on fakes and I do not have the ability (yet) to decide if I have a fake or oringinal.
Would like some opinions, I know the ribbon is a replacement as is brand new.

I also have read posts on Imperial and TR. I think Imperial refers to the govt of Germany before and during WW1. What does TR mean?

    Cheers Edward

Ok.......insert picture wants an URL but I have jpeg images.
"Oh the shame of being computer illiterate"
How about the address of the eBay page I bought it from?

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWNX:IT

From what I can tell the photos are of the cross in my hand, the little scratches appear to match.

My fridge magnet sticks to it.
I would like to know how you can tell it is a 3 part construction, it does not look like it will come appart to me.

Oh I have seen some posts on the 'ahem' claims of elitemillitaria so put this down to being new to the collecting world.

    again cheers
    Edward

Hello Edward, and welcome to the Forum. I take it you intended to post a picture of your new 1914 EK. If so it didn't get through. Could you please try again?

In the meantime and to answer your questions, yes, Imperial refers to German awards prior to 1918. And TR is just an abbreviation for Third Reich.

Once again, welcome to the Forum.

      Best,

      Alex

Thanks Edward. At first glance, the cross looks great, with an almost perfect, pristine core, like new. But the more I look at it, I have the suspicion that the core may have been repainted. Would others care to weigh in on this? Thanks.

        Best,

        Alex

I've seen crosses offered on US ebay by a couple of the Australian dealers. Often, they appear to have had the silver frame cleaned and the frame repainted. OFTEN! Now, when I see a cross for sale from Australia, I run.
No offense meant to our Aussie friends, but you definitely have some crooked dealers down under. Ammersee

First of all, welcome among us my friend.

Good news are that you find us in time

Indeed, I have to say that this Iron cross despite the fact that is original has a repaint core, but ok, isn't THAT bad

Elitemilitaria as a seller is not the one that you will say you made a bargain.
There are out there a lot of pieces in more competitive prices.
He overprice his merchant and not only in German crosses, but also with other awards from all over the world.

As a small suggestion - and I can say it as I do not use the section as a seller - our Imperial militaria table has more interesting stuff in better prices so stick around not only for value informations about your pieces and answer to your questions, but for some really good bargains.

Have a nice day our new Aussie friend

Definitely a good one, as to it being a repaint,Can't really tell from the images, I would like to see a better photo in daylight. When you have the cross in hand please post some pics.

                Welcome aboard,

                Chris

                  What a wonderful responce!
Thankyou all, I am pleased it is genuine, I can live with the repaint.
It is my first cross for my collection.
I collect Australian medals from all eras. This was my first non Auzzie medal but it counts under the 'soldier on the other side of the line' rule.
Of cource I just made up that rule so I had an excuse to buy it.
My final goal is to have an original of every British campaign medal from 1800 to 2000.
Where it exists I want that medal to be Australian.
Initially I will need to have some replicas but over the years I am sure I can swap them out when I get the real thing.

It may be that the ribbons will be the hardest parts to find.

Anyway glad to make your aquaintance.
                  Edward
