    ek1 fake or 57 replacement?

3 piece construction, same size as the 1939 cross , when the pin is opened we find a mm (on the pin) looks like a z?
would this be a 57 replacement or a good fake?

Hi Mark, it looks like you've got a 57er by Steinhauer & Luck, if its magnetic with solid hingeblock, it should be a mid to late 60's cross!!

I'm not so sure. There are fake cores out just now that look a lot like this, and that pin looks like an attempt to copy an S&L-style pin, rather than the real deal.

Is the core magnetic, and is the cross quite light in weight, and thin, to the point of being easily bent by hand??

Thats a perfect match for the top one of the two pics i showed, also has the same bare metal backplate and brassy colored solder around hingeblock and catch, date around 67/68 i think!!

                  Hi Nigel,

                  ... it looks like you've got a 57er by Steinhauer & Luck
This is not and never correct.

                  It is a copy.

                        Hi Nigel,

you can call it as you want, just not "original" or "57er".

EK 1914, manufactured after 1924, are always copies or fakes (not-original), regardless of the name you choose.

I'm not sure if this is one of the recent fakes or a ~ 1960s copy by St & L.

                          They are pretty close...
