    New EK1 AWS/Junker

This just arrived from Streptile's (Trevor) collection. It's an EK1 with an AWS type 3 core and what is said to be a Junker core. This is a nice quality piece that really shows it's silver content when you look at the rear frame. I was a little surprised when I downloaded the pictures as the core looks much better in hand. The pictures show some paint loss, or as I like to call it character. Either way it's a nice addition.

The hardware looks similar to my AWS pillowback.

Any additional information on this cross would be appreciated.

      Hi Steve,

Nice photos . This frame is not precisely a Juncker frame, but a frame that many believe Juncker used in WWII. A subtle distinction, to be sure. But it is also the same frame as the one on your AWS Pillowback -- and the same frame as on the 1870 Wideframe series. So it got around. I have taken to calling these Juncker/AWS EKs because I'm honestly not sure who made them. Pretty much everything you need to know about this type can be found HERE.

Here's my other one, the one I kept:

      Best regards,
      Streptile

Great pick up. I drooled over Trev's crosses he was selling but I couldn't afford to blow any money at the time, so I had to suffer as I watched them disappear one by one

Very nice grab though Steve. A great addition to any collection!

Thanks. I thought this was a no brainer deal, but I too was a little financially embarrased, or I would have had a few other. Kicking myself that I let the Meybauer EK2 slip by and the second class version of this cross, but hey, rent and food have to be paid for too. Bought another EK1 a week later, so I'm in the hole again from my "addiction"

LOL I know what you mean...BELIEVE me

Trev had turned me onto Junckers big time and I still don't have an Imperial EKI in my collection, so I was jumping up and down wanting to get one that he was selling!

I still need an 1870 and 1813 though to....and a RK....and a DKiG.....and a pillowback....and some of those nice enamel awards people have been showing off....

Anyone care to donate about 50,000 to the "Make Ryan's Collection Better Foundation?"

If you don't have a 1914 EK1 yet, pick up one of the flat awarded pieces like a KO to get the ball rolling. Isn't that pretty much the classic Imperial EK1?

It is, but tbh, I haven't been very excited by KO pieces.

And i'm at the point in my collecting that I have learned enough to know that I'm not going to get every maker of every era RIGHT NOW (even though I want to lol). I figure at some point I will get my first, and I will make sure it's a real nice one, from a maker I like, perhaps Godet or Juncker.

I actually prefer EKIIs anyhow (I have about 17 EKIIs of various eras, only 3 EKIs!) so I'm not absolutely going nuts to get one, just to say I have one, ya know? I actually would prefer to get my first 1870 EKII at this point. I know where the one I want it as well...I just haven't got the money yet!

Love these Wideframes. Here's a pic Trevor took of the cross in post 3 together with what probably is a AWS/Juncker Prinzen. Has any of the EKI's got a stippled core like the one below, found in a Silver framed EKII?
