I think this style medal is called the Regiments=Erinnerungskreuz or REK for short. Here's what the document looks like (not my document). They came on a myriad of various colored striped ribbons, the rules for which, no one has completely figured out yet.

The shown document ist for the even more rare cross "Treu der Marine" , the navy version of the cross "Treu dem Regiment" - really not often seen...

The owner of this document was Obermaschinen Maat on the ship "S.M.S. Regensburg" which was a light cruiser.

There is a really interesting thread on these on the GMIC. If you look here you can see a lot of old vets photos i posted of these being worn @ 1930 by really old veterans-Franco prussian war types. they were very popular and even 'tolerated' under the TR.
