From my limited experience with things Austrian the lower cross seems to have the more typical middle ring. Mabe it's issue and the top one is a replacement?

I've seen Austrian red cross awards with both types of rings depicted in Mario's KKs. Both types are acceptable. I prefer the second type, though.

Sydney Vernon always stipulated that Austrian awards with suspension rings that were not soldered to form a solid ring were in fact postwar items. If the ring on the first KK has a break in it (more than likely) some would consider it to be of later manufacture. Interesting in the sense that these awards are postwar anyways...

here are two more detailed scans of the second cross.
Is it mounted on the contrary?

          Ciao
