want to put some other strange frame feature's to our attention

    what about this ek ?

this must be a full AWS ek2 according to what I have seen jet

with the core off ( a normally bend ek1 core) AWS
and also a classic AWS frame

there is only one odd thing about this cross

          ALL EK'S 1914 I HAVE,,, PRODUCED FROM 1914/ 1939/1942 UNTIL 1957
(even the high quality prestigious crosses Hansen to Werner and deutscher offiziers verein )

HAVE A FLAT SIDE TO ( under) THE RIBBON OFF THE FRAME

I have beeing told that those flat side's under the ribbon shaped top ,

are the pressing aria's off the mould

as the frame ribbon shape is pressed in to the silver frame .

is this AWS frame produced with a different method then usual ?

Hi Kay, took a look at some 1914 EK's and most of them got the flat part and a few didn't. The ones that got it also varied in size. The ones with a small flat part were overall thinner then the ones with a wider flat part. Maybe some crosses did not have room for a flat part due to thickness?

Think it was up to the designer of the dies if he wanted the flat part or not.

A 1939 Meybauer Schinkel and a C F Z 1914/1939 EKI did not have the flat part at all.

That is one weird looking 925 mark in post 2! Do you think it's post war?

Core details and use of the uncommon 925 marking certainly indicate AWS to me. A nice looking example.

                    my thoughts are

a mould with sharp ribbon like edges , wood be cutting throe the thin material wile bending it in to the shape .
and wood leave scratching marks on the inner corners between the ribbons

therefore the ribbon shape in the mould wood be inside the top off the mould .
where the silver sheath metal wood be bend in in the last few millimetres off the moulding process.

but maybe with some other moulding process this problem wood be overcome.
and the ribbon go all the way down

that is what aim looking fore ,,,dos anybody knows about ,,maybe some,, different moulding processes. ??

                    regards kay

                        Nice one, Kay.

Your frame matches the Wideframe EKs HERE, as you mentioned:

AWS. Interesting. Does anyone know more about the company? Where located? When founded? When closed, if closed?
                        Best regards,
                        Streptile

Looking for ROUND BUTTON 1939 EK1 Spange cases (LDO or PKZ)
