    Imperial crown for a ribbon?

    This crown is about 3/4'' h and non-magnetic. One prong is broken off. This crown appears to fit onto a ribbon medal.
    I would appreciate info on this.
    Again, thanks in advance for input.
    regards, van

      I would say this is a piece of uniform insignia for the Prussian Navy. It would be on the hat or sleeve. This is pretty far from what I collect but someone here should know. Look into naval uniforms and you should find it.

        I agree.

        Although a Hohenzollern crown, with the exception of the 1879 Golden Jubilee medal, I can not think of any instance where this (style) crown could be applicable.

          The metal is rather thin, tinney, that one would think that it wouldn't hold up if in a more exposed to contact position. Perhaps it was attached to the ribbon of a medal or an epaulet similar to a pip.
          It may be that this crown hasn't been around the block so to speak tho that seems unlikely.

            It is a crown for the shoulderboards of officers of the Marine-Infanterie, I. - III. Seebataillon, and then during WWI also the Marineinfanterieregimenter in Flandern.
            Crowns for the sleeve of naval officers tunics have three or 4 prongs on the reverse to fix them with a metal back plate from inside the sleeve, so nothing could "hook"? under the crown an tear it off.

              ==========
              Thanks, CS, for the interesting history lesson as this is how I consider these items.
