I'll have to get a large photo but here is my new Bavarian tin Pickelhaube. I've been trying to find a nice example for a while. There are some minor dents but the paint is nicely intact. I've seen these with some really big dents too and the paint usually doesn't chip. Any ideas on why? I thought maybe it is like those tin toys of the same era and the high lead content just sort of becomes one with the metal.

Oooh!! Very nice! But this actually looks more like the one-piece steel Pickelhaube. These are found in black, or in a green color. Due to the helmet being made from steel, there is no front visor trim or rear spine. Usually they show the fine lines from where they were machined. The tins ones have separate affixed visors. Is this all one piece? Tony

Having said this, I am sure a Feldgrau tin one will show up on ebay someday.......an airbrush.............some Humbrol model paint...............
The steel pattern helmet like yours, is found in black, or more commonly, Feldgrau painted. I do not have a black one myself, yours looks like a very nice example. Buy yourself a drink, its not everyday you bring home a new Haube; celebrate! Tony http://www.kaisersbunker.com
