                1) Greek Order of the Redeemer

                2) is either Sicilian or Tuscan, probably Dave will known

                3) presumably some sort of Malta/Johanniter cross

the last two I cannot read what they say, but not anything official like the above three.

Oops... I was typing while you were still posting. I thought you had finished.

                6) Badly damaged Portugese Order of Saint Benedict of Aviz

7 is maybe a wedding souvenir for later Emperor Wilhelm II and Augusta-- that is their joint cypher "WA"

Rick, you are the greatest and fastest one

                  Thank you very much!

Were these crosses given to German Soldiers too?

Now I only have to translate the names in German

                    Griechischer Erlöser-Orden (Ritter)
Portugisischer Militär-Verdienst-Orden San Bento d' Aviz (Offizierskreuz)

Professkreuz? oder Gnadenritter? e. Malteser (kath.) oder Johanniter(evang.)-Ordens

The silver brooch with 1914 I can only read what looks like "Erinnerung" and the badge from red enamel crown... something about former members of Bavarian Inf Rgt 1 "König"?

I will GUESS from the cypher "L II" and "militari" inscription on 2) that it is the Tuscan Military Merit Order-Officer. Duke Leopold II (Habsburg) (1797-1870):

                    Toskanischer Militär-Verdienst-Orden (Offizierskreuz)

                      - There is another Greece Cross then in the group (see photos).

                      - On the rear of the brooch there is a private gravure "Zur Erinnerung an den 28.8.14 - Ludiwg"

                      - Badge with the red enamel crown: " Association of former members of k. 1. Inft Reg König"

The non German Crosses, were they given to Germans? And wich era were they? Is it possible that they were awarded to the son of General von Waagen? He was Officer in WW1.

                      Best wishes

                        Hallo Joerg,

Concerning the Greek medals. Rick is quite right that the first one is a knight's badge of the Order of the Redeemer. This is the first type and would date it 1829-1863.

The other medal is known as: The Cross of the Bavarian Volunteer Corps. It was established by Royal Decree on 26 May 1837.

Hope that's helpful...if you need more info on the history of these awards do let me know.

                        Cheers,

                        Adam

LUDWIG Waagen was born in 1878. Bavarian army circa 1897-1920, in Infantry Regiment 1:

                          Leutnant 10 March 1899
                          Oberleutnant 7.3.10
                          Hauptmann 10.9.14
                          charakterisiert Major aD

He was alive in 1926. In 1913 he was Regimental Adjutant of Bavarian Inf Rgt 1, and ended the war as Adjutrant of the Generalkommando, 1st Bavarian Army Corps.

Before the war he had only the 1905 Luitpold Jubilee Medal. WW1--

                          Bavarian MVO4 X 5 November 1914 and

Crown to that grade 26 September 1917.

That must be HIS large 1920s ribbon bar, regimental brooch, and the souvenir 1914 silver cross.

The circa 1860s foreign awards could not be his, nor is his father the "ritter von" wearing any of them. Perhaps those belonged to the General's father? Or someone else in the family.

                            Hi Adam,

thank you very much! That was a great help - I had no idea about this crosses before.
Do you have an explanation how they match into the Gen. von Wagner Group?

Any idea about what they may be worth (knight's badge of the Order of the Redeemer hat a damge in the enamel) or where I can find something about them?

                            Best wishes
