    Assay - PLM Spanish Fake

    Guys,

    For what it's worth--

I bought a Spanish fake Pour le Merite knowing what it was, but had it assayed recently through a friend who works professionally at a lab in the Reno NV area.

**Total weight, excluding ribbon, including jump ring: 29.6 g or 1.044 oz.
    **Content copper: 8.9 g or .031 oz
    **Content gold: 17.6 g or .062 oz.
    **Content other: 3.1 g or .0.109 oz.
    **Specific gravity: 9.3

It was estimated that gold made up 5% of the total weight, if I understood correctly; perhaps that's what makes its appearance so appealing, but nowhere near the $1100-$1300-$1500 seen online.

Hi and thanks for posting this--I suspect all of us learning how to sort out the more sophisticated fakes appreciate the effort. Is there a typo or transposition, though? The described gold content would seem to be high, at 17.6 g, if it is estimated to make up 5% of the weight. Please post some pictures if you can, too!

LO, would it be possible to get measurements on your piece according to the diagram below?

Thanks, and any pics would be nice as well. Steve
