Home made parade mount EK-2

Hi Guys,

Here is a EK2 that I just picked up that looks like it may have been
converted to a parade mount by the recipient. The ribbon is glued to
a piece of heavy cardboard, which looks to have period printing on it.
The pin looks old enough and is sewen to the cardboard through
the ribbon.

IMO this is nothing rare or valuable but I thought it might be interesting.

Yep. And the back is worn as front. Any makers mark on this cross?

Wow, I like the EK. It reminds me of the photo of our school book of the Napoelon era, where a picture of the first 1813 EK was displayed also on a red background. Really beautiful and the trapezoid style od the ribbon makes it uncommon and very decorative.

Now thats a very interesting character! I love it It displays the un-tampered original hand quality of a home made necessity complete with the years of age overall. Also interesting, the 1813 mounted about face??

WOW-what a blast from the past. That was posted 3 years ago.
I read once about the reverse mounting. I think it was some sort of a
political statement from one of the German states. I will have to
do some research on that.

Very nice original mount. I like it a lot.
A pk of a Matrosen just went on ebay last week of this EK2 mounting style.
The piece from 3 years ago was mostly me. I made a guess that backwards EK2s were non-Prussians and that this was 'political'. This is supported by LOTS of photos taken 1916-18. There were lots or mistakes too, but its odd that so many Bavarians, Badeners etc. wore them reversed.
After 1918 more than a few EKs were worn reversed as anti-monarchy sentiment swept Germany. Photos exist of Red Guards wearing no medals-or maybe a ribbon here and there and others of 1919-20 soldiers (usually wedding snaps) wearing the EK reversed.
