1914 EK2 mm S 800

I would appreciate your comments on this ek2 I've just picked up as I am very new to imperial awards and don't Know a great deal about them.
It is marked both S and the silver mark 800.
I can't seem to find any others to compare mine to. The 800 seems to be stamped onto a flattened area of the suspension ring which seems different to other silver stamps and I guess this could have been added at a later stage .
Do you think this is a genuine piece or is it just another copy.

Interesting cross. I just checked it against the "S" marked example
in our database and the two are completely different.

The frames are different (notice the hump for the jump ring) as well
cores (notice the dates--especially the "9") Imo-- two completely
different crosses.

Hopefully some of the Ek2 guys (Steve, Micha, ect) will jump in on this one.

I had noticed the differences on the 'hump' on the jump ring and now I have looked the 9s are completely different as you said. I had read that imperial makers used each others cores and frames and I thought it might be possible that this was just a different amalgamation but as I said I am still a novice in this field and may be way off.
I had only bought this piece out of curiosity as I am more of a TR collector and thought it would be a good comparison piece.
It seemed a a good piece at the time but maybe some of the experts can put me right on this one .

I have no problems with this being a very nice period example. To me it actually looks like an early cast iron cored example.

Given that most manufacturers seem to have used more than one core, the fact that this one is not (yet) in the WAF database does not really mean much.

The "S" stamp itself looks like other stamps by this maker. That's certainly a good sign. There is so much variety in these 1914 EK2s, so a differerent core doesn't send up huge alarm bells. There are different cores turning up from time to time. I picked up an S-W EK1 last year and Mike Kenny had never seen that particular core on an S-W, so it can still happen. I'd say a nice example with the 800 stamp being an added bonus.

It was the added 800 mark that made me wonder about this piece ,but as you say there seems to be a lot of variations to these crosses .
I'm glad it is a good one though.

The majority of marked EK2s will usually just show the letter mark from the maker. Sometimes you will also find a silver content mark also, usually 800, as is the case here. These are much harder to find. From what I've seen, the only maker to always show thier mark and a silver content is CD800. Of course, a silver mark on it's own without maker's mark is also found. Most again are 800, although I have a 925 in my collection.
