Bavarian War Merit Cross 3rd Class

I was looking at David Danner's great website on medals and had a question. Some of the Bavarian War Merit Crosses were bronze and some were zinc with a blackened finish. Are there examples of zinc Bavarian War Merit Crosses that were given a bronze finishing coat or if you have a bronze 3rd class medal is it bronze throughout?

Nimmergut does refer to copper plated white metal third class crosses with crown and swords. I am not familiar with copper finished zinc crosses or zinc crosses with a blackened finish, but they could very well be out there.

Hopefully some of our fellow forum members who are more knowledgeable on this subject can provide more definitive information.
