    General question ek1 awarding

    Hi All,

I have a question that has been on my mind for a while. Maybe it has been answered already in this forum, but I can't find it.

I wondered which makers of the EK1 are really awarded during ww1. I only can find "flat back is awarded" "vaulted is privatly purchased". If so, which authority (or chance) did determine the maker for an awarded soldier? Did he got a KO, WS, FR or KAG just by chance?

Secondly I read that some official makers produced awards after ww1 (at least PLM's ). Did they also produce flat back ek1's after the war? Is there a list of the manufacturers that did so? (Practically I want to know if KO and WS stopped EK1 production after the war).

    Thanks in advance,

    Michel

First of all, EKs were awarded even post WWI. They didn't stopp handing out in 1918. If I remember correctly, it didn't end until 1924 and many were produced in these days, of course even for awardees. My father has e.g. a "KO" marked EK I that came with a document from 1920.

Definitely just by chance. However, most would not have cared who made it as long as it did look fine. They were not collectors as we are...
