    Unusual EK1

I've had this in my collection for many years (Pre-internet!!) and bought from a then respected dealer.

I have seen only two other examples of this EK, one was on a dealer's site, can't remember which now and another posted at GMIC which had been drilled with holes for some reason, anyone else seen one of these, and if so any further info as to possible manufacturer?.

The workmanship is quite exquisite and of the highest quality, stamped 800 on the pin and on the cross under the pin, below the the clasp, not visible in the photo's.

It came in the Maroon case, photo attached

    regards

    Alex

Hi Gent's thanx for the quick responses.

I've no doubt that it is an authentic piece, made privately during or after the war (WW1), it doesn;t seem to match any established makers that I know of. given the fact that at least 2 others exist as per my previous posting, I would just like to know if any maker could be established or was this likely to be a "Cottage industry" produced one.

        regards

        Alex

Try matching it to one in the EK Database pinned at the top of the Imperial Forum page.

            Hi Alex,

I've seen a few of these for sale but have never quite managed to add one to my colelction yet. The core is the generic "tall slant W" type, used by quite a few manufacturers. I've never seen this type, with the hinge/catch plates, marked for anything other than silver.

            Regards
            Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Hi Mike thanks for additional info. Never spotted the elongated W, I must keep an eye out for other EK's with similar extended W's. It seems that whoever made these just bought cores and then added his own rims.

The hinge/catch plates seems to be an earlier way of attachment but seldom on 1914-18 EK's

              regards
