and by the slim shadow I can see it is inscribed on the edge that is was made from captured guns.

(most do I know, but some aren't and I suppose those are the rare/desirable ones)

Those that don't have the inscription are private purchased replacements, some come even gilt. They are quite common, too. I personally prefer the awarded ones as this one here.
