    Oldenburg cross 2nd class

    Greetings all,
here is my Oldenburg cross 2nd class.
Despite that a lot of collectors think that this iron piece is a "black ugly iron" as they call it, I like Oldenburg crosses, they are relative rare too.
(At least more rare than Iron Prussians...)

Postwar ribbon here of course, didn't came with the cross.

I hope to find soon a 1st class Oldenburg and complete the pair

Of course I know you love them, I saw your bar with it, dusty and rusty but great piece.

Looks like a less common example in tombak (probably private purchase) rather than an awarded iron example.

Oldenbergs are awesome. I have a 1st class but still need a 2nd class. Looks like a nice one there.

Can I just revive this thread to ask a quick question? Today I saw an Oldenburg Cross second class in tombak as shown above top. It has a replacmnet ribbon and the dealer is asking £30 for it which sounds good to me. Is there anything I should look out for in regard to fakes or repros?

the awarded crosses are magnetic in blacked iron as
                    Mike Kenny said before..
the first one for me is a piece buyed in the 1920th
                    but also good for me.

                    @ reichenberg
I would wait for an cross with original ribbon

If the cross is good, and you like the price, pick it up and ditch the ribbon. Ribbons are nice, but many of the crosses in my collection and shown here don't have ribbons. It's not too much of a problem.

Thanks for the help so far. I can tell you that on closer inspection the ribbon is original, but the cross which is made of painted brass, has a plain reverse with no detailing whatsoever, but is slightly convex. The front of the award seems OK. I can't find another example like this on any other threads on this subject.
                        Any ideas please!

                          Nothing wrong with that.

That does not sound right to me. If it is a standard second class size and there is no evidence of pinback to second class conversion, then it would be a problem imo. Hard to say much without pics though!

As I can see,we do have much reference material from these Oldenburg FA II class Cross.
They are made of Brass, not magnetic, the black paint is very senzitive to fade ( I have seen much worse ).

A post WW I piece of course during 20's ,you will see some of those mounted in TR era Medal Bars.
                              So fully original Oldenburg cross.

PS:Sorry for my delay for better pictures so that we can have reference material,I was absent from our forum for a while but back in track once more
